“I Love This Job”: Sree’s Story of Compassion and Connection at Sylvian Care
‘I love this job,’ says Sree. ‘I feel really happy and satisfied when I see the clients are happy or when they’re getting better through the care we’re giving them.’
Sree was 26, when she joined Sylvian Care as a care professional, in 2023. Before that, she was in India and did a master’s in social work.
Sree says joining Sylvian Care was a good decision. She enjoys talking to the clients. Some love companionship. ‘Can you just come and sit with me and talk to me,’ some say to her.
They enjoy being in their home. They have photographs on the walls and ornaments and memories of their lives.
Some tell her: ‘My husband and I lived in this home together, and I want to live here for the rest of my life.’
The care Sree provides includes personal care, preparation of food and help with medication.
She recalls one client that she used to go to three times a day. ‘She felt like a friend,’ says Sree. ‘She was a lovely lady. She was nice to every carer. She enjoyed our company. We’d take her for a small walk, and she liked to talk. She talked about her childhood memories and her bond with her family. Through her stories I could imagine what it was like for her growing up.
‘At the end of her life, I was there for night time care. I was glad to know I did my best, I took care of her very well. I miss her sometimes.’
Sree would like to progress with Sylvian Care, to do more courses and training and grow in the same field.
‘My clients are very special to me,’ she says. ‘Sometimes they wait for our visit and look forward to the next one. I feel I have a connection with them.’
At Sylvian Care, we believe care is a calling for the compassionate - one that asks for patience, empathy, and heart. Sree embodies that every day, and we’re deeply proud of her and of all our carers who help clients live the lives they love, at home.
